On Sunday 28th September, I had the pleasure of taking part in The Rook’s Den Night Market at Parklands Sports & Social Club in Doncaster- and what an experience it was.
The venue, Parklands Sports & Social Club (Wheatley Hall Road, Doncaster DN2 4LT) is a large, community-centric club with function rooms and event space, so the setting was ideal for a night market of this size. The event itself, the Rook’s Den, is described as a “goth & witchcraft fair / night market” featuring divination stalls (tarot, oracle), alternative artisans, live entertainment, free entry, goody bags for early comers, and a best-dressed competition with a “Into the Fae Kingdom” theme. According to local press it’s “a craft market based around goth culture and witchery” organised by Lee Barton of Moonsea Divination.
I first met Lee (the owner/organiser) while working at an event in York. Despite being in something of the “same line” (tarot/reading) we connected well, and he invited me to join The Rook’s Den for this edition. I felt a real bond- we’re both neurodivergent and I always find those shared wavelengths make working together richer. The space at Parklands was fantastic- big, open, but with that alternative vibe: dark-ambient music, gothic/witchy décor, artisans offering everything from crystals to pewter jewellery, and clients looking for something more off-beat. I delivered my usual tarot readings, and was blessed to meet many clients in real need of guidance. It was gratifying to be busy, to have meaningful conversations, and to feel the energy of the room shifting through each connection.
This event reminded me again why I do what I do. Being surrounded by fellow practitioners, creative stalls, real people open to guidance and exploration- it’s nourishing for me as much as for them. Thanks again to Lee and to everyone who stopped by my tarot table. I’m already looking forward to what’s next, and I’ll certainly keep an eye on future Rook’s Den editions.
